Yorkshire Aquatics Limited became the principal organising and regulatory body for aquatic sport in the County of Yorkshire, North & North East Lincolnshire. The County of Yorkshire together with North and North East Lincolnshire had a population of 5.18 Million at the last census. Originally the organisation was called the Yorkshire Amateur Swimming Association. On 18th October 2003 the traditional Yorkshire County area was extended by the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) to include the administrative areas of North and North East Lincolnshire, and YAL’s remit extended to cover the Aquatic Clubs in those areas.
YAL looks after the interest of swimmers, artistic swimmers, divers, masters and water polo athletes and organises events that include disability competitors.
Aquatic Clubs in the geographic area intending to send members to compete must affiliate to YAL in order to do so. Clubs in the county do this by affiliating to Swim England, together with affiliation to Swim England North East Region and YAL.
Governance of YAL
- The affairs of YAL are run in line with the Articles of Association.
- The management of the Association is in the hands of the Board supported by Technical Committee Secretaries for the major branches of the sport, all of whom are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for periods of up to 4 years.
- Proceedings of the Board are minuted. Nominations for any position as Officer or Board Member are welcomed from members of affiliated Clubs, for election at the AGM). Board Members become Directors of YAL upon election.
